Ned is quite right... HTML mail has no place on a discussion list. Indeed,
many purists (and not just old timers) would say it is unacceptable
anywhere!
For those who are not aware of what format they are sending in, they should
look in the options of their e-mail client. If "HTML-rich text" is checked
or active, it should be changed to "plain text". If you do not know how or
where to look, check out the Clayart archives, where Outlook, Outlook
Express and other mail clients like Eudora are described pretty well.
At least Ned gets to see something, even if it is gobbeldy-gook. I do not
for another reason... I CHOSE not to for security and other reasons, so any
HTML-mail I receive has the header (from/to, subject, date) followed by
this message: "This is a rich text (HTML) message that does not contain a
plain text body."
I use Calypso (great prog) and have the safety, security option to turn off
HTML (which is BTW an open door to virus and worm infections of your PC,
because it is a "self-executing" feature). I also find this HTML-off option
one of the strengths of Calypso, because most spam is sent in HTML format,
so it saves me being confronted by the depraved and disgusting mail I am
being sent daily, in increasing quantities (I believe I am liberal about
most things, but that stuff really is spawned by sick minds).
HTML text is converted into the form of an attachment, which I then have to
load it into my browser to read. I do not have the time or the inclination
to do that unless it is mail from a personal friend. Even then, it may take
a few days for me to get around to reading it.
There are at least half a dozen Clayarters who are currently posting in
HTML format plus one who seems to have a maverick system which sends out
completely blank mail! No, don't worry, it is not you... they know who they
are.
Sincerely
Janet Kaiser - Surrounded by a lot of great "pots" just now... The wackiest
being the Owl and the Pussycat complete with boat and "the turkey who lived
on the hill". Just wish I could remember that part of Lear's ditty...

Hey folks,
Before we get farther into this accusing "they-know-who-they-are" mode on
the subject of HTML, you might want to stop and realize that there are
those of us out here who may be unwittingly using HTML, and don't or didn't
have a clue.
Those like me don't know much technical stuff about computers haven't any
idea of what it is, what it is for, whether or not we have it, and whether
or not we should have it. Guess that makes us the "half dozen clayarters"
who are bad guys, huh.
I did have HTML checked as it turned out (I found it after somebody
politely inquired). Given the option of HTML or Rich Text, I then
switched to Rich Text. What ever that means.
So be a little considerate about these things, please.
