iron oxide, temperature effect on color

I recall somewhere reading (Clayart maybe??) about the color change iron
oxide (Fe2O3) undergoes when it reaches a certain temperature. I have seen
this occur with ordinary rust, changing from a reddish brown to a dark
chocolate brown. I would like to know at what temperature this color
change begins to occur. I have done a search under thermochromism and iron
oxide, but no results yet. Does anyone on the list know? Please e-mail
privately.

Thanks
