I'm getting very excited about attending my first NCECA and getting away
from what has seemed like endless Winter here in the Midwest. I do have a
couple of questions, but before I ask those, I have a comment about Axner,
prompted by the recent posts.
I had a problem and a few questions about my Axner kiln and they were very
responsive, friendly and helpful. Howard had a very knowledgeable technical
person call me and the problem was resolved in short order. I would not
hesitate to purchase from them.
OK, on to my NCECA question. Is the Fri. night dance formal or is it one of
those, like the Clayart party, where you come dressed however you'd like?
Also, is there any last minute advice anyone would like to provide to those
of us who are attending for the first time? What to bring, what not to
bring, stuff like that.
And lastly, I'm going to Nottingham post-NCECA and would like to know if
there is anyone on the list with whom I can ride up on Sat. I will, of
course, pay whatever is required. I also need to get to the airport on Sun.
I would not mind taking public transportation, but so far have not found
anything appropriate. I think Terry has been too busy to answer me on that
one.
Feel free to post me off-list. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Everything at NCECA is come dressed any way you'd like. This runs the gamut
from Dave Finkelnberg in his suit to Paul Soldner in his sarong (or nothing
at all, occasionally). But the dance seems to be an opportunity to show off
some pretty wild clothes, hair, tattoos, and jewelry. Not me, of course- I
just watch.

Bring a portfolio or at least some photos or slides of your work and studio.
You will see, hundreds of times in four days, what I call the "NCECA
Salute". This involves an arms-length grip on a sleeve of slides, held for
several seconds toward the nearest light source. And bring comfortable
shoes and a big smile. You'll use that a lot.

There is always shuttle service between a large hotel like this and the
airport. That's usually the easiest and fastest thing to do. And it's
almost always cheaper to buy a round-trip ticket on arrival than to buy the
two legs separately.
See you there,
