I had to laugh when I read this. It brought to mind a time back in the
early 70's when I was in England for a while. I got into an argument
with someone over the pronunciation of aluminum. They were calling it
aluminium. Boy was I flustered when they brought out the dictionary.
(Appropriately English of course)
And the word schedule, pronounced ssshhhedule, and school pronounced
skool? What is that all about?

Well, I guess we'll just have to make the pie higher.

Our National Public Radio station features a British newscast each
afternoon. It's great to hear a different point of view. But I must admit
that each time I hear CON-troversy pronounced conTRURversy, I have to
remember to translate.

Egad, Charles...
You need to wash your ears out...
con-trov-ersy or con-tro-versy three syllables only. equal emphasis on
each. Don't mix the regional cadences (of the language) with the
pronunciation!
Sincerely
Janet

Well, I've friends from Maine who never park their car......they paahk
the car. And I've heard tell folk from the Cheasapeake Bay area don't
live in a house, instead they live in a "hoose"! And in this area in
Alabama no one goes anywhere unless they "go on the car"!
