After hearing all the pro's and cons on the bats, I just had to try the =
Hardyboard and see how they work. I shared email with Ken Y. from =
Florida and he gave me the information I needed to build them. Comes =
out to about 66 cents for a 12" bat. That's what I like, more money for =
clay. If anyone is interested in seeing pictures on how I spent about 2 =
hours this afternoon, click here, then click on "66 cent bats"

Nice informational web page !
Is this stuff shreddy at all, as in "stuff gets in your clay"?
And is "Hardyboard" THE best material or will any old tile
backer board do?

I have only been using hardiboard for a couple of months now and so far
I am really impressed. Other tile backer boards just don't have the
structural value as hardiboard. Most bats can be made from the 1/4 inch
board making the bats lightweight yet strong. They will not flex, swell,
warp, or flake apart. I am, however, able to snap one in half by giving
it a sharp blow across my knee.

Plaster bats and Medex bats are heavy and take up more space.

Here is the web site for hardiboard www.jameshardie.com

Also keep in mind this is just my opinion, and I have no personal
interest in the hardiboard business, at all.
