Ours is running $1.75 a gallon, which is why I switched to a wood-burning
fireplace stove in the studio.

My studio is in central New Jersey.
I paid $1.723 per gallon in February, but only after I leaned on the
supplier; my impression is that propane dealers have a wide variety of prices
they charge and state that the differences are related to annual volume of
consumption, but I don't believe that is an accuarate story.
Conclusion: it's best to ask the price before confirming your order and
emphasizing that you are a potter.

All the best.

Around these parts stating you are a potter will definitely get you a
"heftier" price. When I set up my studio in a commercial establishment I
ran into so much trouble that I ended up buying my own tank rather than
renting one. They don't like potters. I thought owning my own tank would
be better and I wouldn't be held hostage. Wrong.

It just means that I can switch companies if I so desire without having the
tank removed, get new permits etc etc. They are crazy here on permits and
inspections. My pipes were inspected and re-inspected by three different
inspectors. None of them have ever seen a kiln and what can you really
inspect on pipes but hey....

I have a 250 gallon tank and I fire two to three times per month.
Commercially, I am considered a low volume user and yes, I think they have a
lot of latitude to give good prices, however, I don't seem to get them.
Each time I fill up, the price has gone up. I complain each time (that's
probably why they don't call me sweetie) and I was told "Just wait until we
go to war" So, I guess the price will keep going up. I don't know what the
other commercial users are paying but I suspect a lot less.

The only reason I am with this outfit: they don't call me "sweetie" and they
don't refer to my kiln as an "oven" otherwise I am paying a lot I think.
Last fill up was $160 per gallon in February. I'm sure the next time it
will be more. Ditmar is paying a lot but look at how far they have to haul
the fuel. I'd say he is getting a better deal. We should all move to
Hawaii. I wonder what he pays for his clay.

I just paid $3.00 per gallon for mine. I only use it for my raku stuff so I
fill two sixty pounders at a time. I could get it somewhat cheaper at one
of the big gas companies but they won't allow me to haul it in my SUV. They
say it is against the law......So, I fill mine at a camp ground facility .
