For the last three weeks, archaeologists have been rooting through the =
dirt and mud on North Fifth Street looking for some trace of James =
Oronoko Dexter, a former enslaved African who helped found the city's =
first black church and the nation's first black self-help organization =
in the 1780s and 1790s.
