mackinac island workshops

Hi--As a former resident of Mackinac Island (my son was born on the =
Island, in that cute little clinic!--that's another story) can tell you =
that the only workshops you will find are the fudge shops where they =
demonstrate making fudge and blow the fumes out the door to entice you =
in! I love the island! and the fudge. You will find touristy shops and =
beautiful scenery of the Straits of Mackinac; bring or rent a bike to =
circle the Island if that's something you can do, take the horse drawn =
tour (no motorized vehicles) and pay the 5 bucks to wander in the Grand =
Hotel--setting for "Somewhere in Time". Drool over the yachts in the =
harbor. But don't expect clay activities or even much in the way of art =
pottery in the shops..Things do change, so that too could be wrong. =
Above the bridge, about two hours is Marquette, "Art on the Rocks" is =
the last weekend in July. I hope to be there. In the lower peninsula =
is the Traverse City-Petosky-Charlevoix area which has lots of touristy =
and high class galleries and shops. I don't know off-hand of any =
participatory events. I hope you will enjoy your time in Michigan.

Kay in windy but spring like Grass Lake, MI--the peepers are peeping, =
the cranes are back and tomorrow is the Garage Sale Art Fair at the =
Kalamazoo Fairgrounds--9:30-4:00--last year I sold 14 banana boxes of =
stuff I never wanted to see again but was too good to smash--=20

Thanks for the information. My wife and sister-in-law are putting the
trip together. Thought if there were any clay activities I'd try and get
to them. I keep hearing about the fudge shops, my wife and sister-in-
law will be in heaven.
Thanks again!
