I have just finished setting the second counter in my kitchen. When last I
chimed in I was whining about my bad luck with my bullnoses and the waterfall
brown glaze running off the sides and sticking to all the kiln shelves. My
depression lasted about a month, then I unloaded that kiln and ground off all
the shelves. I remade all the bullnoses.
As luck would have it I made another mistake. Jon from DC posted a recipe
for Dirt Stain (6 parts tin, 3 parts rutile and 1 part frit 3134). I had
been using that for some decorative tiles at cone 6, very cool, but very dry.
The second time I mixed it up it was still very cool, but less dry, satiny,
still crackled. A great surface for my bullnoses thought I - Of course, I
used it all up and had 4 bullnoses left to do and all the corner tiles. Now
I had to recreate my mistake. So after many tests (how hard could that be
only three ingredients?) I finally figured it out. I knew it was the frit, I
just didn't know how much. It is a great contrast trim to the Waterfall
brown.
I am using Hydroment brown grout. We also ordered a Kohler black sink with a
"tile to" edge. So now, I am going to tile the backsplash behind the two
areas and when that is done I will set up a picture on my web page.
Happy Happy Joy Joy!
