I spent my first "whole day" at the wheel today. If you'd like, you can see
what I decided to start with, for my graduation show. I plan on making 108 of
these guys. According to Joseph Campbell, 108 is an important "spiritual"
number. It is (3X3)X(4X4.) Take a peek here:

I must warn you though, it is related to "religion" and "politics."
Or, more precisely: belief and the application of belief. It is my
understanding that all human behavior is informed by these influences, but many
of us a simply unaware of it. (The Cartesian deal with the Devil. It was
Descartes birthday today, 31 March 1596.) The most dangerous beliefs are
those that we are not aware of having.

Lee,

Thank you for sharing such an important time of your life with all of us.

The photos make us feel we're there with you and that handsome fur-ball dog
of yours. The bamboo structure for shelves is so innovative to this potter
who is building shelves right now.

What precise throwing! The 108 urns will do well as a repetition and
representation of all those who die in wars.

Again, thank you........

SECOND TRY

Thanks Tom. That essay was in Studio Potter a couple years ago in an
issue that focused on Shimaoka and his foreign apprentices.

When I get my work finished for my graudation show, I hope to do
more writing. I'll share some of it when I do at my web log page:

I patched up the roof where the hole for the chimney is in the
kiln room yesterday. Glad I did, its suppose to rain all day. It rained a
coupe days ago, before I finished the roof, and I had to put a tarp on the kiln
to keep it dry.

Right now, I'm going out to put more ears on the Jizo bottles and
number them.

Sunday Addendum:

Listening to "Lake Woebegon" broadcasting today from Bemidji.
Friend gave us an old electric oven, little bigger than a toaster oven. Made
my first "Minnesota Hotdish" in a casserole I made before I graduated. Running
out to buy a battery so I can photograph it with the digital. "You Betcha'!"
