Thanks to all clayarters that answered my post on any suggestions in
teaching Mentally Challenged.

I held my first class tonight. We started with pinch pots. I had a full
class 10 MCs (ps the house parent that is helping me has corrected me this
group is not mentally challenged they are Developmentally Disabled so from
now on I will call them DDs).Their were 2 children, a baby and 3 House
parents besides.

We used my extruder. We were going to make cups with handles but just got
the cylinders with the bases attached. I have a lot of leather stamps. I
brought them and some odd shaped pieces of wood to decorate the clay with
and they had a blast.

Next week we will concentrate on cups with handles using my extruder and
some enclosed cylinders possibly spaghetti holders.

They need help but once you get them going they keep real busy.

I’ll bisque their pieces this week and bring them with me to glaze them next
week.

Mary the house parent said we got a lot accomplished and everyone seemed to
really enjoy themselves.

Thanks again to all those who answer my post a few weeks ago.
I will keep you posted!
Les in the Rockies!

How wonderful!
I am new to the list so did not see your prior post. I am a special
educator. For many of the DD, clay work is so therapeutic. I am so glad
you are taking the time to enrich the lives of these people!
I currently teach autistic teens. Unfortunately, autistic people usually
have real issues with getting things on their hands.
