perhaps and unanswerable question about raku glaze

I finally learned what was in the glaze I had used for my 1st raku
firing and calculated approximately the additions in it plus the
additions I made. Here it is:

Gerstley Borate 75%
F4 Feldspar 18%
Zircopax 7%

Add:

Cobalt Carbonate 4%
Black CU Oxide 4%

I threw my pieces using Raku Clay from Armadillo Clay and Supply in
Austin TX and bisqued them to Cone 03. I then washed the pieces and
allowed them to dry overnight and then used a single dip of about 1
second in a milk consistency glaze of the above recipe. I allowed
the pieces to dry 48 hours after glazing before firing.

I fired the pieces using propane at 8psi and a MR100 Venturi Burner.
I waited until the entire surface was glassy and slick looking and
then post-fire reduced using shredded documents and Xerox Copy Paper.
The Post-Fire Reduction lasted about 30 minutes per piece, with 2" of
paper below and 2" above the pieces in a galvanized trash can with
the lid shut tight.

After opening I sprayed the pieces with a bug sprayer first and then
walked over to my garden hose and doused them until they were cool.

With this in mind, I talked with another potter who has done some
Raku and he said that he couldn't believe I got the shiny metalic
copper surface that I did. He said that only with Stanous Chloride
fuming could he or other Rakuists he knew get that surface.

I guess I would like some feedback on why this combination of
procedures and materials created the surface that I saw in all of my
Raku Pieces.

The pieces are at:

Hi Steve...beautiful copper raku glaze...my question is, what brand of bug
spray? That is the only unusual step to me! Lori Pierce in New Port
