As part of the genereation that is forced to be subjected to the vile pro=
phetic ani-visions in media, art, and in life, i must object and viamentl=
y protest the idea of standing up for something such as "grow up, become =
adults ... and take responsibility." and thus i feel i must comment on t=
his as a direct stand in part of myself not wishing to be categorized in =
the total b.s. that is surrounded by my age group and target denomination=
in the socio-economic world hierarchy.
The entire idea of that is the fact that you are classifying the general =
population in the lump sum of the cantankerous masses. Being Sheeple is =
what media portrays in the imagery of Gap Nation and the Hilefiger Regime=
. Now understandibly that there will always be IDIOTS in the world who w=
ill riot because beer is such a lucrative supply of enthusiasm, but to sa=
y that all of our art will dissappear because of it is sort of propostero=
us in nature. And then suggesting that we should contact our museums and=
ask them what their plans for the future is sort of proposterous and is =
about as good as farting in the wind. =20
True the media does use the 1rst amendment as a shield in portraying the =
way the ideal life should be, but it always has and always will do it. w=
ether the "ideal" is to get your lust filled groove on, aka. mtv trash tv=
, or to be the ideal family with 2.5 children and 1.5 pets, aka leave it =
to beaver. just because GENERAL society is forced to be subjected to tha=
t swill, does not mean it is accepted by the majority. =20
I don't think your post is "anti-art" i think it is quite the opposite, j=
ust that it is very influenced by fear facts. and motivated by the instan=
ce of the museum being ran-sacked. Like someone else said, we could have=
prevented it, as well as was mentioned was the destruction of the great =
library at alexandria. And as far as FUNDING for the Arts goes, particul=
arly in public school ... pitiful indeed. My highschool art teacher alon=
e ... taught 27 classes in a standard 7 period day. she was underpaid, u=
ndersupplied, overworked, and worse of all, she had no power to even prot=
ect her job. The same people that fired 2 of our art teachers, built a 5=
million dollar office building that same year and even imposed a tax hik=
e on the unsuspecting populous. how much of the added income did our sch=
ools see ... notta. of course ... the sports teams got more funding ... =
but you know, muscle brained jocks hitting each other really makes up for=
the lack of funding in the schools. especially in florida. (don't rais=
e your children here)
And while i touched on the subject of media ... those so called revulsion=
s of advertisements in the name of "truth" only result in desensitizing t=
he populous about the subject. the same goes for all the "shock" value o=
f television shows. anyone can turn on the boob-toob and see writhing bo=
dies in postulating positions of lustful eagerness and we will still watc=
h it like a car wreck of nuns. When that gets old, and we stop paing att=
ention, the higher ups will try to create a new way of catching the eyes =
of the everwatchful populous. its call the rating system. in its own ri=
ght it is a war. One definantly can not base what is wrong with our cult=
ure by watching the fictious escapism factory of the television empires. =

Subject: broken art(long)
i have had 5 posts today from friends.
they discuss the downfall of art, iraq, europe
and of course art education, funding for the arts.
antiquities smashed.
i have a take....it has been sitting on me like
a lump.
`when do we as crafts people take a stand`.
what is the nea buying?
in my opinion, a great deal of junk.
what is being funded?
a great deal of junk.
rotten performance art. people applying for
grants with junk ideas. bad craftsmanship and
bad ideas.
and, we wonder why the society rejects it.
look at tv, films, smut, bad ideas.
and the defense is always....`i have the freedom
to show my body....push my body at the screen.
it is good for teenagers to see this`. my art is
smut, but the government should pay me to do it.
entitlement. it is the wave. and soon the funding
will be gone. for good. when do we say.
`enough`. ??? grow up, become adults...take
responsibility. how do we keep defending the
emporer's naked body?
if we continue to defend smut, junk, bad ideas as
entitlement, well watch it all disappear.
most of us as potters take care of ourselves.
that has been our way for generations. many artists
are jealous of us...we sell. we do not feel privileged
and entitled. we expect that our customers are served.
it is adult behavior.
this weekend kids at the u of minesota rioted after
the hockey team won the national championship.
burned cars, smashed shop windows.
one student was quoted `it is the universities fault,
they did not provide a place for us to let off steam.`
it was the universities fault!!!...that the students
rioted.!!!...give me a break. entitlement. rules the mind.
few take a bit of responsibility to be an adult.
it makes me sick.
should a country that sets a record for television
audience to watch a women select a millionaire
for a husband fund it's art? it think not.
we fight for the right to be artists, we respect what
we do as potters, we work our tails to the bone.
and we watch the world of crap take over.
it is time to wake up...fight back.
write your galley and museum people...ask them
where they are going? what do they have in mind
for our future?
where does quality craftsmanship fit in the scheme of
things.
i know that many will reject this as being anti-art...anti-creative.
but, i have been watching and waiting...and nothing much changes.
if the society at large does not care a damn about
art, well then it is time to educate and fight back.
the job belongs to us, the potters, the clay people.
we will never be accepted in the big shows, the big
museums, the big venues. we are humble dirt folks.
we do not belong.
well, according the the big A folks.
well, so be it.
watch it die then.
