cobalt green oilspot green/blue ^6

Hi Carol:

If you search the archives with the above subject, you would find the glaze.

I take absolutely no credit for this glaze. For starters, it was sent to
the list by none other than John Hesselberth and he says he got it from
Lee Bedford (check archives). Also, I see you've altered it a lot.

So I ask you - may I have permission to test your new Carol Tripp Original
Oilspot blue?

So you know, it likes a fast cool (not like J&R's glazes) and when applied
too thickly (for me) turns olive green. Best results to date were obtained
by spraying.

I look forward to seeing this new re-worked glaze posted to clayart.

Hi Sam,
Last year you shared a recipe for Oil Spot with me (and Clayart too, I don't
remember). I tried it, liked it, and I've just had it tested at one of the
labs John H recommends. They tested for cobalt and boron. I don't have the
figures yet, but I was wondering if it would be ok with you if I gave the
recipe to John H and then he can post it and the leaching figures on his
glaze stability list on his web site? And would you like credit for it, such
as "Sam's Oil Spot" or "Maid O'Mud's Oil Spot" or any other name you choose?
The (retotalled) recipe is:
36 EPK
18 Flint
46 3134
5% rutile
3% cobalt

If you don't want it posted, that's ok with me. In that case, would you
object to John having the recipe so he can use it for his research?

Thanks, Sam. Hope you are enjoying spring.
Best regards,
Carol

Among the glazes I had tested was this one. My kiln cools pretty slow I mean half time
between the "barrel" kilns and the "J&R kiln".
I uploaded the picture to http://members4.clubphoto.com/ababi306910/185990/
second slide.

Hi Sam,
Well, this is in the public domain now, so let me expand for anyone
interested.
Lee Bedford's Oil Spot ^6ox is now the name. He sent it in to Clayart
totalled to 118. I used Insight to retotal to 100 plus rutile and cobalt.
So, it is not a new recipe, just a retotalled one.
Funnily enough, I slow cool this glaze. I always dip, never spray. And I
don't get olive green no matter what I do. It's varigated emerald green,
royal blue, lavender and only brown where very thin.
Boy, when they say "your results may vary from the original" they weren't
kidding!
I don't have any samples here to take a photo of. I'll try to remember to
use this glaze soon and then post a photo on our nascent web site.
Best regards,
Carol

Bonjour Gerard,
Go to http://www.frogpondpottery.com/, click the Glaze Stability section and
then find John's list of tested glazes. You'll find Annie's Tan and others
as well as a wealth of information that is useful to know.
Best regards,
Carol
