39 beautiful african pots

updated sat 26 apr 03

Great pots! I saw a show at the Museum of mankind in London 20 years ago
with similar pots. Still dream of some of that texture. Knowing your
work, I can see how you are atracted to these pieces.
Your work is beautiful too and I dream of some of those textures as well.
Best wishes,
marcia ( really love texture)

There's a wonderful book by Nigel Barley "Smashing Pots: Feats of Clay
from Africa". Lots of pictures, lots of information on the culture
surrounding the pots. Great book!

Marta,

When I clicked on your website, I got a virus alert just as Tom Sawyer did
so did not proceed further into your website. Thanks for posting the 39
beautiful african pots.

thank you marcia!
that is so very kind of you to say, what a compliment!
thanks a million!
of course i love texture too, but those african pots`
textures are so sensuous! and i think the firing adds
to their sensuousness a great deal... maybe that`s why
i am so drawn to primitive firings as well...
can`t wait to use up all my porcelain and go back to
earthenware clays!
have a happy spring,

Marta,

When I click on your website, I get a message that my computer could be
infected with a virus and I am urged to download information concerning
a program that could cure the problem. Yours is not the only website
where I am so notified. What is bothersome is that it is almost
impossible to escape without closing Outlook. I find this annoying and
very distracting. Not sure whether your selling or leasing space or if
someone is somehow just tagging along. However, I ended up not looking
at your pottery and probably wouldn't go back to your site without
assurance that this was removed. I would suggest that such tactics may
not be best marketing. Please forgive me if this is beyond your control
and is somehow just pops up every so often due to a cookie loaded on my
computer. P.S. your main page contained a beautiful pot.

Tom, what you are seeing is an advertisement, not a warning message! As
such you must just learn to ignore it. The way to discern this for sure is
to pass your cursor (without clicking) over the three little buttons at the
upper right corner of this (fake) warning message window--you know, the
'minimize-restore-close' buttons common to all Windows programs. As you do
this you will notice that the status line of your browser contains a long
URL--in other words, clicking anywhere on this phony 'warning' will take
you to another site, and will NOT close or minimize the irksome window!

I think it's a pretty crummy trick to make an advertising banner appear to
be a real window, but what can ya' do?!

Since it's just an ad, no escape is necessary (or I guess I should say
'possible'!). Tom, it's like the commercials on TV--just gotta learn to
tune 'em out, or find another communication medium.

It probably IS beyond her control. The ads are normally inserted
automatically by the web hosting service. Naturally this reduces (or even
eliminates) the cost to the web owner, Marta.

And no, it's not a cookie thing--EVERYBODY gets those messages.

As do her other pages!!

Hi Russel and all

Those wonderful pots in the book were in the exhibition at the Museum of Mankind a few years ago, and most of them can still be seen in the African gallery at the British Museum. The Mus of M doesn't exist any more, as the collection was moved into the main British Museum, after the British Library moved out to its new building.

The pots have been beautifully displayed, and it is yet another favourite to add to my list of places to see when I do the rounds at the BM.
