While digging through the archives about saggar firing most of which
concern low fire I did notice a couple old posts regarding high fire
Saggar use to enhance certain glazes.
At the local adult ed center we have Halvorsen updraft kilns.
Since they use alot of dark clay they do not reduce to heavily.
They don't start body reduction until 06 then very mild until
10 is down with a period of Re-ox for 15 minutes.
Alot of the time we get pieces which have good color on one side only.
Celadons and are prime examples.
Iv'e had my own thoughts but i can't go in there and start telling them
what i think they should try.
Can I make an open saggar, place charcoal around the bottom and expect
different results?.
Would this effect other pieces in the kiln?.
Also, are there other proven oxides/combustibles that i could use without
detriment to kiln or other ware?.
Thanks.
