Hi from New Zealand

Just wondering if anyone has a glaze of the above type or even a
good true black stain.

Have been thru the archives and every other site and book I can find
but to no avail ...

To save cluttering the group you may like to respond direct ..

Thanks in advance
Wayne

Hi Wayne,
Here are 2 recipes that I have from a book. They are from Kathy Triplett. I
have not tried them myself, but I have used other recipes from the same book
and they have all worked great so I think they should be reliable.By the way
the book is Handbuilt Ceramics by Kathy Triplett from Lark books.
Kathy's Satin Clear ^3-^6
custer feldspar 26%
silica 23%
whiting 15%
kaolin 10%
frit 3134 22%
bentonite 2%
tin oxide 2%
It says to add stains from 5 - 10%

Kathy' Textured Semi-Matt ^3
lithium carbonate 8.9%
strontium carbonate 18.4%
neph sye 55.2%
ball clay 9.2%
silica 8.3%

no one has enough cone 2-4 glazes layin around.

Its a toss up, you can add flux to a cone 6 glaze or add alumina/ decrease
flux to a low fire that over fires well. frits do well at this. after all,
they're fritted

If you like simple try 40/40 frit 3195 and soda spar. 10 wollastonite 10
epk,
black it up with mason 6600
a few tests and you'll have it sticking to whatever your trying to put it
on.
too runny?? add 2% line blends of epk till you crack the code.

you could confuse it by using some gerslty borate or sub, and some potporri
of stuff. But I think the technical data comaprison sheets for ferro frits
is confusing enough. get one and check the available flux:flow ratios to
your hearts content.
