strictly functional pottery national awards

updated wed 4 may 05

The 11th annual SFPN opened last night with great food, wine, music
(cello and flute) and a group of great people! Juror Wayne Higby gave
a slide presentation and talked about "functional" pottery. This
morning he gave a gallery talk, and people were able to bring in
their pieces and discuss them with him. It was good!

If you are in the Lancaster, PA area, do stop and see this great
show. Higby looked at 1285 slides from 47 states, plus the District
of Columbia. He selected 100 to be in the exhibition.

Here are the particulars:
Where: The Atrium of the Southern Market Center in downtown Lancaster, PA.
When: April 26-May 26, 2003
Hours: M-F 9-5; Sat 10-4; Sun 12-4.

I will let you know when it is all on the web site! I just looked and
it is partially done now. The pots are there, but the juror is wrong,
the awards are last years and are messed up anyway, so best to wait
until our web master gets it finished -- should be soon!

I think it would be a great idea to list the schools these people went to,
I mean talk about nepotism.
I know alfred is a great school, and it can be said I harbor feelings about
not getting in, and I didn't even apply for this show, but come on,
in the 21st century there isn't even an apperance of propriety.
best of show and first place both graduated from alfred.
And I want to be fair here, Alfred is great, and in the past it has graduated
some great talent, but you have to ask, arn't there other great programs out
there graduating people.
Don't get me wrong, both of these artists make greeat stuff, and deserve
acolades.
This is embarasing, and What has happened here is what keeps clay a second
class citizen.

Hi, everyone.

I submitted this last week, but several people told me they did not
see it, so I will try again.

The SFPN had the opening April 22, which was very successful. John
Glick gave a great slide presentation followed by a gallery talk
where he explained what he liked about some of his selections. We had
great food, live music, and I think everyone enjoyed themselves.
About a dozen of the artists were there, and people enjoyed meeting
and talking with them.

The entire exhibition (as well as last year's show) is on the web site:
www.strictlyfunctionalpotterynational.net

We have had good attendance, good publicity, and good sales so far!
