Does anyone recall the CM issue that featured Shiro Tisjimura (spelling?)?
Last year or so. There was a pciture of his Anagama kiln with a what looked
like an encased fan at the fire hole. It was an oil burner of some sort.
Does anyone know what kind of burner that is, type of fuel, and where I can
get one?

Thank you.

Dear Tony,
I co-authored an article about oil burners in 1973 for Studio Potter.
The designs are in the article which is now in the Studio Potter Book.
They were household furnace burners adapted to use three nozzles. I
think the article from CM last year. We used Leach's The Potters Book as
a guide for firing and fighting clinkers (carbon build up).
If you can get a hold of the Studio Potter book, there are other
articles in there about oil as well.
Besy wishes,
Marcia Selsor

Tony,

I you don't get an answer let me know at:

clay@penland.org

I guy around here bought one and is using it to fire his kiln.

I had an article in last months CM about firing our noborigama with used
vegetable oil but we were using drip burners. I wanted to get the
injection burners, which I think are from Taiwan, but alas, no cash.

Anyway let me know and when he returns I will find out. Or if you hear
first I would love to know the supplier.

Thanks,

John Britt

Tony,
Just to experiment you can usually get used oil burners for free from
heating contractors. They just throw them out when they convert to natural
gas or LP. I've firing with homemade versions of these burners for 25 years
using #2 fuel oil.
