In August of 2003, a full-time Americorps position will be available as a
Youth Mentor/Community Mural Coordinator at an established Youth Pottery
Center in rural Northern California (Crescent City). The Youth Pottery is
open free of charge to area youth, ages 12 - 25, Monday through Saturday.
It has five electric wheels, two electric kilns, a slab roller, extruder,
and a pug mill. Youth mix their own glazes and are currently firing to
cone 5-6.

The Center has created two puzzle-piece tile murals for the community, and
has a current project underway with high school students for a 225 square
foot mural, to be installed in July. They have all been original designs.
You will continue this tradition of community ceramic art incorporating
youth input plus your own creativity. We are looking to fill the position
with someone who has their BFA or equivalent ceramic and drawing/design
experience.

Americorps offers basic health insurance, a living stipend, and at the end
of your term, a $4,725.00 education award. The living stipend is based on
California's minimum wage, $6.75/hr. for 1700 hours, to be completed in one
year. Americorps will also pay the interest on most student loans while
you are a member.
