Dear L. P. Skeen

You are certainly correct about colour construction of Purple or Violet =
via optical theory using those chemicals.

But as I recall the situation, Fra wished to obtain her colour from =
Manganese which has the ability to produce a hue unlike any I have seen =
made via either the pathway you suggest or by reducing Copper/Cobalt =
mixtures. Manganese Violet is both special and elusive.

Best regards,

Er........as I recall, she had tried manganese and cobalt + magnesium and
everyotherthing she could think of with no joy. I have 2 purple glazes and
both are VERY purple. One is matte w/ manganese, the other is glossy with
Cr/Sn+cobalt. I also have accidentally made a periwinkle blue/lavender
color because I was CUSSING LOUDLY at that damn 20x5 glaze from Tony
Hansen's website - one of the most heinous glazes known to mankind because
it settles like a rock in the bucket and is a bitch to apply - peels off if
you look at it wrong, even when thin.....BITCH!!!!!!!!the picture I don't like that glaze?>- anyway, I added epsom salts to keep
it in suspension (din't work), and it came out this soft purpley blue color
because of the Mg.......or is that Mn? I can't remember. Magnesium.
