Hi Phil,
We probably lost some fine examples, when the Iraqi National Museum
was sacked.
The first historic evidence for any kind of wheel, (not just the
potter's wheel), is of thrown pottery from about 6500 years ago. This has been
found from 4th century B.C., Sumerian Mesopotamia, or what we today call Iraq.
It is a small world. :^)
