prices for firing

We don't do alot of it so we have found a very simple solution. We charge
$1 per pound with a $10 minimum. In the case of a full kiln-load (10 cubic
feet) we charge $35. That covers the time to load and unload and the
electricity. We were able to calculate the cost of electricity ($11 per 04
firing) by having the local utility install a portable meter between the
electrical panel and the kiln. It showed us the number of kilowatt hours
were used in a firing. Everybody's kiln will be different as will each
kiln-load depending on how densely its packed. So just do several and
select an average.

Laura,
I have my stuff fired at a 'communal studio'. It cost $216 to become a
member for a year. Then I pay $3 per square foot for bisque firing, plus a
surcharge of $1or2 per piece which is taller than around 8 or 12 inches.

Then for the cone 10R glaze firing it is $8 per square foot, but this
includes use of the studio and about 15 glazes, plus oxides, slips and all
the glazing equipment.

Hope this helps
