who is a good web host for a pottery website?

updated sat 10 may 03

Lunarpages is good and inexpensive. Don't have a site there now, but I hear=
good things. Hostony is where I have a low-cost site on Linux. It's less=
than $10/month with large disk space, generous transfer, and PHP/MySQL -=
that's great for interactive gallery-type sites.

I also have sites at Interland. Too expensive, but they have good support=
and reputation. Recommended to clients when you need high uptime and no=
hassles. Not worth it for non-revenue or hobbyist sites, IMO.

You can get domain names for less than $9 at godaddy.com and there are lots
of web hosts costing well below $30/month. In the past, I have used
5dollarhosting. I think the plans started at $60/year and went up from
there depending on the amount of storage space required.

For you folks that have your own websites, who hosts your site?

I'm wanting a pottery website that can have lots of small photos that click
to larger copies of the same photo so I'm needing a host that can provide
lots of webspace for minimal money.

The choices are just too great and my time is just too crunched for me to
investigate all the web hosts out there. Can you suggest a host that works
well for you?

I am currently using

http:\\www.freewebsitehosting.com

and paying $6.95 month for no adds and:

100 Megs Of Webspace
Free Site Promotion
FTP Support
Free Stats and Site Tools
Front Page Extensions (Pro)
Fast and Reliable Servers
Unlimited Bandwidth (Pro)
Free Guestbook

Looking back on it I think I would choose a little more expensive
provider that had more user-friendly upload and change tools for the
site.

This is my $.02 worth......

I use www.your-site.com which is $5.95 per year when paying 1 year at a
time. I also register domains at www.godaddy.com for $8.95 a year. That
comes to about $81 a year. You can see my sites with the links below. My
gallery pages are set up with thumbnails on a summary page and then you can
click on the picture for a full screen. This is pretty easy to do with
FrontPage.

Good luck,

Belinda,

I have my site at Tera-byte (www.tera-byte.com). They have been OK, though
the customer support is not the greatest if you don't already know what you
are doing.

You might try looking at:

http://www.webhostingratings.com/

Lots of info in one place.

Also, you may not need as much space as you think you do. Do a little math
before you spend a lot of money. Your HTML pages will probably be only
1-5K unless you put in a lot of fancy effects or use software that bloats
the code, your thumbnails will be less than 10K each, and your larger
photos shouldn't be much bigger than 30K if you want them to load in a
reasonable amount of time. If you think you will have about 10 photos per
potter, you would have ample space with 500K (1/2 megabyte) per potter.

They cost $6.99 a month if you are paying every six months. No banners or

If you need more you can upgrade for a little more.
You can take a look at my website if you want to see how much I have on

After looking at a gazillion web providers I have found that Your-site.com
is affordable (cheap) and reliable. Most bang for your buck.

Hi all,

I have used http://www.aceofspace.com/hosting_US.html for my own site for a
couple of years, and place all my clients there if they don't have their own
servers. The basic package, which is more than enough for most sites, and
offers many extras like mySLQ, CGI access, etc, 50 email addresses, for
$12.95. US/month, with NO setup fee. Their tech support by email is
incredible ... 24 hours(nothing ever happens during office hours ), and
solutions come within an hour or two. I don't think there is better VALUE
out there.

Be careful if you are going to be using a lot of images. It's probably not
the storage space charge that will get you, but costs for transferring the
files. The bottom end, few dollars a month plans, can be deadly if your site
becomes popular and you get many visitors viewing a lot of images.

Standard disclaimer: I have no affiliation with this company other than
knowing the owner because I place so many of the sites I do there. Just a
very demanding and happy customer.
