Karen, the riverwalk is in San Antonio, about a three hour drive due
West if you're going pretty fast. Here in Houston we have the Contemporary
Crafts museum which is a must see for potters, the Menil Collection (which I
would suggest that you visit first though they are closed on Mondays and
Tuesdays) which is right next to Rothko Chapel and Barnett Newmans "Broken
Obelisk", the CAM, MFAHH (an acronym that can be lotsa fun), the Houston
Center for Photography also located near the Menil and a host of galleries
throughout the city.
Also, don't forget to go into the "Naguchi" sculpture garden across the
street from the CAM and THe MFAHH, there are some extraordinary pieces
there. Additionally you will find a number of sculptures situated in and
around downtown and along Buffalo bayou. I'll compile a list of the
"sculpture walking tour" that an ex professor of mine takes all of his
students on if you would like. Time permitting you owe it to yourself to
take a trip down I-45 and go to the Orange Show (built by a former postal
person who believed that the orange was the source of all that is right and
good and could cure anything. An outrageously wonderful place!!!) They are
also on the web at http://www.orangeshow.org/. If you are up for a bit of a
drive to the East Charlie Stagg (one of his larger works is housed in the
Visionary Museum in Maryland) has built an amazing environment that has
literally grown from the piney woods of SouthEast Texas.
If you go to the Houston Press via the web you will be able to access
the art scene or virtually any other scene that you desire. Try this link
http://www.houstonpress.com/.
The music scene is extensive and varied. There are a number of Jazz
Clubs. The food is excellent and varied (we aren't the fattest city in the
country for no reason.)
The only drawback will be the heat and the pollution......so prepare
yourself.

If you can manage the Contemporary, and the Museum
of Fine Arts AND the Menil collection, you'll have put
in some pretty solid time. The Contemporary is not
large, but the other two are.

The River Walk is in San Antonio, several hours away.

What is the Riverwalk (if I've even got the right

From the internet, I have the Mus. of Fine Arts(wow!),
Contem. Art Mus. and Menil Collection.

Other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
TIA!!
