I always cool down the same. It's a fiber downdraft, and since one firing took place in March, and the other at the end of April, the outside temperature is the only variable that would have changed. The first load could have cooled a bit faster, or maybe I had the glazes a bit thicker, or something. The appearance wasn't that obvious until I put the pots in my gallery, and they just sort of looked a bit cheaper. The texture just wasn't at all picked up, and no iron crystals at all. I think that iron crystals do come from a slower cooling, and more reduction. I didn't really have time to reduce that quick one, as it went from 05 up to cone ten down in under an hour. Whoops! Ahhh... you learn and you learn. I think a seven hour firing is probably the best for my pots, because it really does look the same as a longer firing. Hmmm... still learning through error, Jules
