Dear Bun Bun,

If you are using a clay which is genuinely vitrified at Cone 6 and it =
can be trusted not to seep over time then the only drawback I can =
imagine is the gradual build up of a Brown Tannin Stain on the unglazed =
surface of the clay which will eventually taint fresh tea.

My opinion is that Teapots, even porcelain teapots, should be given a =
clear glaze on the inside. It is part of the art of crafting a teapot.

Best regards,

Hello BunBun,

Teapots should be glazed WHITE on the inside, or clear if you're using
porcelain. Teapots are containers with small openings, and thus hard to see
well inside because it's dark in there. ;) A white liner glaze will help
the user to see if there are any little tea creatures lurking in the pot and
get 'em out of there! :) Also excellent for reading tea
leaves........hehheh....

Ivor,
On the other hand, if you look at Yixing teapots, always unglazed inside
and out, the Chinese feel strongly those pots do not produce tea of the best
flavor until they have been seasoned with use for some time.
Perhaps it's like all things in clay. There are no rules. It's a
matter of taste and preference.
All the best,
