The castable is under the fiber. There were six bags of castable used there
and another bag and a half on the burner ports. My favorite part of all
this....the car that moves so nicely and the vertical burner set up. I'll
send Mel a photo of these. It looks really good back there.

We had a good time doing the work and thanks to Dannon's attention to detail
and willingness to draw on all of the wonderful resources of the clay
community, the kiln is better than anytdhing I have seen for sale. Nine
inch brick walls and a tapered car for a good seal. There are so many of
these little details reminding us of all the innovation and hard work by
Nils Lou, Fred Olsen and others that we can build on.

Thanks also to Mel for propane input when the gas man was freaking out and
Vince - always at the ready for another question.

It worked out well with a girls' team. We counted on Dannon for the
technical end of things and she turned to me for the personal choice items
and we all worked as a cooperative and willing team. Mel once said to me
that he preferred to work with women because they just don't stop. At one
point this little trait got our cook a bit upset. A gourmet lunch was on
the deck and we had just added water to a bag of castable. We had put a
wrinkle in his plans for perfection but the lunch was wonderful. Many
thanks to my five star boyfriend for his support of all of us. He cooked
and served the most detailed and delicious meals. Chinese one night,
Mexican the next, and Italian another. He was determined to pamper the
ladies who had driven and flown so far to help his love. I landed well.

Bonnie got away before the photo op so I borrowed a stand in from a
friend....Mary Ann Bowman is a local Ithaca potter (on the ladder to the
right) who helped through the entire process. Thanks to all. If anyone
wants a piece fired in the inaugural firing - send it to me!
