To Vince, Lily, Tony and others, thanks for writing and debating the latest critique subject, the Japanese mugs. With no formal art background, I came up with my own method of looking at art. I study the work, THEN I read whatever is available in the way of artist statement, critique, write up at the museum. Its delightful when I can get what the artist was saying on my own. However, its exciting to learn details, meaning, history that I may have not seen or been able to know without the reading part. That way, its a win-win situation. Often though, I find myself wishing I could talk to that artist, right there and then and ask my questions. Wouldn't that be great? Toni Smith in Ohio
