electric reduction...a "not an original idea" idea

Dear Friends.
We are all aware of the problems associated with Silicon Carbide as a =
synthetic agent which can be added to glazes to cause reduced colours =
and the effect of inducing reduction with hydrocarbons in an electric =
kiln electric elements.=20
Some time ago there was a posting relating to the possibility of =
employing elemental Silicon to induce reduction in a glaze. I can recall =
no additional report on this.=20
But my recent reading into the reduced copper situation caused me to =
recollect this and then to consider what other elements might have the =
potential to bring about "In Glaze Reduction".
Has any one ever obtained either powdered Magnesium or Aluminium and =
incorporated these into a glaze recipe?
I also suggest that Graphite and Sulphur in small quantities might have =
a reducing effect though the latter element may produce small amounts of =
irritant Sulphur Dioxide and the latter CO2, both of which might give =
rise to pinholes. But the metallic elements should not do this.
So, any news about Pure Silicon and what are your thoughts about the =
other two metals?
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis. Redhill, South Australia.
