ceramic colorants/using ceramic fiber

I thought that I would help Mel out some and combine my two questions
in one post.

Question # 1
While I really like Chrome-Tin, and have as of yet been unsuccessful
in creating it, are there any other material combinations that create
a color different from either of the base ingredients alone in a
Neutral Atmosphere?

Question # 2

What is the best way to make the interface (joining sections) of a
Raku Kiln out of fiber such as it will reduce the wear and tear on
the fiber? I am thinking of two sections, one which is on a hoist.

I have thought of a straight face to face join,
a lip of brick used to make a join on an "L" shaped lip,
a rut made of brick in which the top section will fit into the bottom.

It seems that all of these solutions involve some fiber to fiber
contact. While the first one looks like it would entail the least
fiber sliding against fiber, how can I make it so one section "locks"
or is guided into the other?

Thank you in advance for your answers!!

Dear Steven,

There is a fiber product that I have used and which other local potters I
know also have used for raku kilns.

It is a ceramic fiber cloth (woven cloth, not blanket) that is reinforced
with fine Inconel wire (2000 deg F. limit).

The construction has always been direct face to face contact either cloth
to IFB or cloth to cloth, with NO sliding to avoid abrasion.

Some locations the material can be found at are:

If you need more product info, do a search with Google, or use the Thomas
Register web site.

If you want more construction details, contact me at my e-mail address.
