Dear Galen Schauer

Lepidolite is a Mica, a Phyllosilicate related in structure to Muscovite =
and Biotite. In the massive state it appears to be fine grained and =
often has a pale violet colour. Do not confuse it with the Felspar Group =
of Natural Minerals.

It fuses between 800 and 900 deg Celsius, making it a useful melting =
agent to initiate fusion in a glaze.

Problems may be caused when it is heated because of the emission of =
Water Vapour which carries with it poisonous Fluorine.

Perhaps it would be a good starting point for making a Lithium rich =
Frit, a process which would overcome the bad aspects of the material.

Best regards,

Ivor Lewis
