Hi everybody!
just signed up for the post. Would like to know if it is true that motors
have to be cooled down to give uniform power? I was looking at a Shimpo
model, I think it is the V75 and they have a fn underneath....just curious
if this is really needed.
Thanks,
Rosie

Rosie -
Some sealed motors used on pottery wheels have a fan and shroud on the
bottom of the motor that sends a stream of air through heat sinks on the
outside of the motor casing, drawing off the heat. I can't imagine any
other reason to have a fan on a pottery wheel, but there could be new
technology that I am not aware of.
Best wishes -

you are considering buying the Shimpo Velocity 75, it is a great
wheel. I have one and I love it. Good luck, John Horner

One more thing - if the wheel in question is the new Shimpo that I
saw at NCECA I didn't see a fan but there could well be one hidden
in the bottom somewhere. It is a wheel with a whole different
approach and it has an electronic power supply that runs a multipolar
motor. The fan could be there to cool the heat sinks in the power
supply as well as the motor,
