Way to go, Lili! WHOO-HOO!
Far too often I have run into folks who want this EXACT same glaze that was
formulated for cone 14 on porcelain, to be able look EXACTLY the same on
terra cotta tiles. It ain't possible. You can come close, but not exact.
And in most cases, I defy any potter--not working in the industrial sector
where glazes are mixed by the vat load--to produce the exact same glaze they
used ten years ago on the pot that made the cover of CM.
The nature of our work is such that we can make approximations from batch to
batch, but the materials change, the conditions change, we change. As
always, TEST, TEST, TEST. And "your mileage may vary."
Had the experience of making one batch of glaze and doing a series of test
tiles that were beautiful. Shared the glaze with a friend whose results
were far different from mine. Same materials--because I gave him dry mix.
Different kiln, different day, different person doing the glazing.
Lili, you put your finger directly on the point. Don't try to duplicate
someone else's work. Emulate and experiment.
BTW: I also love creative cooking. My wife runs for the hills when I am
turned loose in the kitchen!
