Back in college in the 70=B9s, a boyfriend of mine was a potter. I learned a
little from him about different techniques and firing practices. I remembe=
r
he told me that there would be a firing where people could use glazes with
lead in them. All of the pieces were handbuilt, umbrella stands, and thing=
s
that would not have food or plants in them.
It amazes me that people are not aware of the dangers. It amazes me that
some people do not care. It amazes me that anyone would have chemicals in
their kitchen. Sometimes on my way from the garage to the patio, I have
left copper carb on a counter in the kitchen. Bad me.
I take my clay stuff outside and use the garden hose to clean everything.
I=B9m not a neat freak, but I think that I need to do my best not to
contaminate others.
Janet made us aware that there are folks out there who do not pay attention
to the dangers of chemicals. I have three kinds of bug spray here. I use
Deep Woods Off because I am in the garden, but I have citronella spray, and
the kid stuff for folks that do not want to use deet. When people are over=
,
I offer them their choice, and explain that one has deet..
I am thankful for the folks on clayart, especially Janet and Lili, Ivor,
Ron, Edouard, and others who take the time to inform the rest of us of the
dangers. In the case of information regarding the hazards of the medium,
more is better. If one does not want to read it, there is that delete key
that so many people speak of. :)
One last thing, and flame me if you choose. Life is short. I went through
a year of my husband=B9s triple bypass and 9/11, losing some friends, and
changing all of our lives. Why waste energy flaming someone who imparts
information? If you don=B9t want to =B3hear=B2 it, don=B9t read it, just throw it
away. We all have our own energy. When we allow others to upset us, we=B9re
giving up our energy.
Energy, essence, creativity.....

Beth

Elizabeth,
Throw away the poisons and grow some of the herb "lemon balm" in your
garden or a pot. You just take some of the leaves off of the plant crush
them up in your hands and rub over all exposed skin, it'll keep the
skeeters from biting you and it smells good, nice and lemony. In most
places in the country it comes back every year, I usually have to put in a
new plant every year as I need them earlier in the year than mine get big
enough to use, but I'm in MN and we have nasty winters here.
