Catherine, When I started to pot back in the dark ages I fired ^10. Not for any special reason except that I could. When I got this olympic kiln it was setup for ^8 . I was going to fire ^8 until I needed to change the elements and go back to ^10. The elements have lasted a very long time and by the time they needed changed I had developed some great glazes so I stayed at ^8. I do find as well my matt glazes are much better at ^8. I'm more at the high end of 8 maybe even very low end of 9. Josie Norman
