I have a new Olympic natural gas kiln with Bartlett controller and am =
having no end of trouble making it work.In both a slow bisque firing =
(preprogramed into the controller) and a raku firing, the kiln keeps =
stalling in spite of my nudging the gas flow up ever so gently. I have =
relit it umpteen times, trying different levels of gas flow, with no =
success. In the raku firing, I never succeeded in exceeding 1300 =
degrees. Help!

The short answer is one of the following is true:
1. You are supplying too much gas for the amount of air.
2. You are supplying too much air for the amount of gas
3. Not enough of either.

If you kiln smells awful, like real bad car exhaust than you have way
too much gas for the amount of air. As your kiln gets hotter this will
manifest itself by a large flame coming out of the flue. This probably
won't happen unless the the kiln is above 1500 degrees.

I assume/ hope you are firing out of doors. at a low temperature you
could adjust the air (damper) until the kiln stinks or flame appears
out of the flue and then open the damper until the stink goes away or
the flame at the flue gets very short or disappears.
