I have these recipies that I have been wanting to try for a year or two but the only access to a ^10 firing I have is the local anagama so I must try them in the anagama .
the favorites are a celadon a jun (which should work in an anagama ) and an oil spot for wich an anagama might be to high ...don't really know ...
I would also appreaciate any info on access to ^10 firings in new mexico .
thanks in advance

A couple of years ago I fired some of the college celadon in the
Tozan noborigama. This glaze is usually a light transparent
gray-green in the school gas kilns but in the Tozan it was a much
darker olive green, shading into brown where thicker-transparent too.

Fred;
Those olive greens may have been influenced by the flyash in your
firing. Flyash will really shift the color response of otherwise stable
glazes. Often the fuel for these kilns also contains a lot of dirt from
the wood lot, which just adds some 'tenmoku' like color to the pots.
Anyway, something to think about.

Ian,
You must try your glazes to know if they will work. Celadons,
traditionally, were fired in containers as the ash changes them wherever it
settles. But, try it, you may like it. Oil spot will work just fine.
Remember, glazes were fired with wood before gas--some glazes turn out
better in one, the other, or both.
Thank you.

Ian,
A friend and I fired some porcelain bowls in an anagama last year. She a=
pplied a flashing slip to the outside of them and glazed the inside with =
a blue celadon glaze. It was beautiful. The interior remained transpare=
nt and was on the brown side of the normal celadon blue. It pooled nicel=
y in the bottom of the bowl. There was a little bit of crazing but it di=
dn't inhibit the look. I would jump at the chance to experiment with cel=
adons in an anagama.
Have fun!
