pvc extruder mounting question

I'm new to ClayArt, and this will be my first post, (TA-DAH!!!!!!) :^) Of
course, I have been lurking the past 2 months and have learned a great deal
as I get started using ceramic clay as a new medium for sculpting. The
ClayArt Community has really been a wonderful discovery for me!

I've searched the ClayArt archives, and have received plans from two
different sources, which have been extremely helpful in building the basics
for a home-made clay extruder. To keep the shop requirements minimal, I
wanted to see if I could make one without doing any brazing or welding, and
opted to use 4" ID PVC pipe for the barrel rather than metal. However, I
have not yet come up with a good way to mount the PVC barrel to the lever
pipe behind it. I am currently using stainless steel band clamps, but I am
hoping someone else has solved this problem with a better solution. The
barrel wants to move downward no matter how tight I make the bands, and the
barrel also tends to twist away from center due to the pressure from the
bands against a round contact point.

In case my description of the problem isn't exactly clear, I have posted 2
images of it and a thumbnail image index to my website at:

http://www.dannerstudios.com/extruder/index.html

When I get all the bugs worked out, I will try to post pictures showing all
the parts and some descriptions in case any others wish to make one.

Any solutions for a better way to mount the PVC barrel?

tia,
