Hi Jonathan,
I've tried Karo syrup, Golden syrup, Elmer's Glue (that's standard white
glue), spray starch, hair spray, 7 Up and so on on previously glost fired
pots. None of these worked well. Then someone on Clayart suggested mixing
wall paper paste into dewatered glaze. Yes, this works. Once it is on the
pot and dried, you'd have to chisel it off so clean up the bottoms and edges
while it is still wet. You can use this thickened glaze on room temp pots.
Another method is to take your glaze, draw the water off the top (save it)
and then decant some thick slops into another container. (Pour the saved
water back into the large container.) Now, warm your pots up in the oven or
in the sun. I put them in the oven, turn it to 50C and wait about five
minutes. Now, paint the thick glaze onto the hot pots. The heat of the pot
dries the glaze. You burn your hands.
I have had some delightful results and some real duds from reglazing.
Best regards,
Carol
