Hillary, I can't help you with the wall paper paste in that I've never
heard of it being used before. As to the eveness of glaze application: the
glaze that you are using may be to thick. Try thinning down some of it and
see if the application goes more smoothly. Do you dip your pieces? This is
the most efficient method for me.
The bubbling and cratering could be the result of either an underfiring
(in which case the glaze is not smooth before removing it from the kiln), an
overfiring (in which case the glaze is literally starting to boil and run
off the pot), possibly the result of excessive reduction in the firing, the
clay body itself (not as likely), or the glaze that you are using.
Hope this helps

Subject: Raku glazing

Hello

I have recently returned to raku after a long absence.I was having trouble
glazing and was recommended wallpaper paste as an additive. I'm still having
trouble! I'm finding it very difficult to get an even thickness and it is
bubbling and bloating whether it's thick or thin. Does anyone have any
ideas?

Also, can anyone in the UK recomend a good smooth raku clay?

Finally, how do people stop the beautiful copper effects from tarnishing
over time?

Thanks,
Hilary in sunny East Anglia
