signing when you're smith

Tony's post made me think about the problem of being a Smith. No doubt there's another Toni Smith out there making pottery....or maybe several.....But since my work has not gone international except for trades with my claybuds like Alisa, Janet Smith and Carol Tripp, it hasn't become a problem yet. Maybe when I become that famous, I can put a decal of my face next to my signature!:) Problem solved. Toni Smith in Ohio

Hi Toni,

You could also use an...uhhhhh, I can't remember now what it
is called, but...

'Toni'..becomes 'tone-eye' becomes a simple 'eye' with a
musical note as a pupil....or e 'Tee'...

Or similar...

I think names on pots overall are easily detractiong from
the Pot's otherwise integrity.

Had an aquaintance years ago in Texas, whose name was, or
is, 'George Overton'.

His signature on his Pots as a "G" below which was the word
'ton'...being then 'G' (over) 'ton'...

I never signed a pot ever with my literal 'name', but from
the first, used a stylized Cyrillic "P"...

It is clean...and takes almost no room in a small foot or
elsewhere...and is not ambiguous or hard to 'read'...

In the begining I did not sign work.
Folks said "Your pots are great you must sign them".
Ok, I'll go with the popular vote. I signed them "Smitty".
Folks said "Ohh no you must not sign them that way".
I switched to simply "Smith"
Folks said "there are far to many smith's for you to use simply your last
name. Then I started signing them "USA".
Folks simply won't let you have a sense of humor sometimes.
Now I'm using "Phil Smith" printed much like a child would.
Folks are not having a hard time with that so I guess i'm safe.
