Well, Hello, Spud Mud,
When you get yourself situated and all the small particulates settle,
give The Clay People a shout. We're a guild that meets once a month
at member's studios and share info about everything clay-related and
more. heh Olalla is just down the road from us.
Cheers,
Jeanette Harris

Eric:
You will find out when you get here about the local suppliers, but ClayArt
in Tacoma and Seattle Pottery Supply are2 great places to find everything
you need for your studio. If you have any other questions, even general
ones about the area, post me off list and I'll be glad to try to answer any
of them for you.

Eric,
I see you've received all the good info on the pottery scene, but I
wanted to add my memories of Olalla. I had friends
that have since moved from Olalla, but I remember clearly the Fourth of
July celebration when the fireworks barge blew
up and the firemen had to swim for their lives! Quite a show. And even
better is the Annual Meeting of the Olalla Polar
Bears. This involves firing a cannon at high noon on New Year's Day,
whereupon everyone jumps off the bridge into
38 degree water and swims like hell towards the roaring bonfire on
shore. Truly a great way to punctuate the passage
of time!

Eric,
Welcome to the Evergreen State, where the residents don't tan, we rust!!!
I'm about 30 miles north of Seattle in the sorta small town of Snohomish. I
read where someone mentioned the Washington Potter's Association, if you
would like more information about it, just drop me a line. I am the current
President.
You're coming at the right time, we're celebrating our 20th anniversary on
Vashon Island. It's close to Tacoma, so you get to enjoy the 'Aroma of
Tacoma.'

Welcome to WA state Eric!
You've got the low down on Clay Art Center in Tacoma and Seattle Pottery
Supply. While Clay Art Center is closer to you, I would advise checking
out SPS too. Not because they are necessarily better (a running local
debate), but because there are lots of great clay related visits in
Seattle. Two good places to start are Pottery Northwest; Seattle's
oldest studio pottery where many a notable clay artist come and give
workshops. The leftover bisque ware from the workshops is a historical
experience in itself. They used to use an old Volkos for a doorstop!
Right next door in the Seattle Center is the Northwest Crafts Center. A
great representation of some of the best clay the northwest has to offer.
Enjoy, and if your travels take you as far a Whatcom County (way north),
look me up and we'll have coffee.
