Hi. I have a randall electric kickwheel that I bought last year. When I
first started using it the motor worked fine. Then the motor would only
click on if I sort of jump-started the wheel by kicking it a little first to
start it spinning. Now the motor is not working at all, and when I try to
jump start it blue sparks fly out the back of the motor. I know nothing
about electric motors or wiring or anything. I'm not really sure how to fix
this problem. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks---Rebecca

It got mad when you kicked it. Might be bearings. Might be oil or something.
I know, my answers are dumb, but sometimes it's a really simple problem that
no one looked at. Sparks mean something is more that grating against some other
metal. I'd take it in to a small motor repair place, maybe like Honda-after
all, a motor is a motor, and Honda deals with small motors, or maybe a power
mower repair shop. I can't believe I'm going to write about something I know
very little about and actually sign it. Jan

Hi Rebecca,
Certainly 'blue sparks' are not a happy sign...pretty tho'
they may be...
Uhhhhhhhhhh...if you send me a j-peg or two of the Motor I
could maybe make some suggestions.
Now, in this sort of wheel....does one engauge and
disingauge the Motor in some way?
Or is the Motor in constant engaugement?
If the former, the 'kick start' you mention would be to roll
your shoe sole across a rubber nub on the Wheel's end?
Or...?
If not constant engaugement...will the motor spin a little
(power off) if you twist the end? Does it turn freely? And
coast a little?
Are there any 'humps' or cylindrical-things added to or on
the outside of
the Motor Body?
Does it presently 'humm' and do nothing else?

Dear Rebecca,
I have had a Randall wheel for over 40 years and have never had such a
problem.
How old is the motor? I have had my motor rewound once and have had to buy
a new rubber drive wheel once in 40 years. Incidentally, you are always
supposed
to kick start the wheel first. Otherwise you put too much strain on the
motor.
Sounds to me that you need to have the motor rewound or buy a new motor
entirely.
I think a machine shop is your best answer.
