Hey all,
As I was saying, I really dig a lot of the art pottery of the USA. =
My take on it is a little different than most though....I think the most =
valued are the ones where an artist paints in slip over a background =
glaxe....I am more drawn to the forms and the single glazes that came =
along a little later...
My lack of interest in the painted pieces stems maybe from the date =
on the calender....People in 1900 could not go to the Home Depot and =
pick up an orchid....Their chances to stick their noses in fresh flowers =
must have been somewhat limited...So they painted them on their =
pots???.....Anyway it has always bothered me to see flowers painted on =
vases.....It's OK on a plate or a platter or something for the =
wall....but I can't understand flowers painted on vases...If there is a =
peonie on the vase, would it not clash with a periwinkle in the =
vase?...If there are poppies on the vase they might clash with pansies =
in the vase....I think they might, so I do lots of flowers but I don't =
put them on vases....
Just thought you should know......
Tomorrow we talk pots in paintingsHEHEHE
