general information for those who don't know;
if you add http:// in front of your websites that you have listed in
your posts, they become links. A reader can just click on the link
and go to your site. ex. instead of typing www.mywebsite.com
type http://mywebsite.com
This works for most email clients

Just want to add a little point... Many seem to believe that the simple
www.mysite.com which appears as an **active link** (that is blue,
underlined text > point cursor > click mouse and it "works") in most
browsers and e-mail clients nowadays, is also "visible" in cyber space.
It is not.
When www.mysite.com appears as an active link on a WEBSITE, it is because
the web master has included some HTML which is not visible unless you look
at the source, where it looks like this: href>http://www.mywebsite.com
When www.mysite.com appears as an active link in an E-MAIL it is because
your E-mail client is now so "smart" it recognises that anything with www
plus text and dots written altogether must be a URL.
Mail which is archived (like Clayart) is naturally visible to web spiders,
search engines, etc. but they will not recognise the URLs which do not
include the http:// bit before the www.mysite.com. They will certainly not
recognise www. My Site .com (note the spaces) even if there is the
requisite http:// in front, because the spaces are not part of the URL.
The ratings of sites depends on "web visibility", which is why web site
developers love being target links from other sites and they also include
links from their sites to others... It is usually not out of the goodness
of their hearts or because they like the colour of your pots!
Cyberspace spiders do not like coming up against a brick wall... They like
to be able to spin through their world picking up information along the
way... If you don't feed them paths to follow (visible links) they cannot
pick up and store that information for the end users: Those people using
search engines which depend on spiders for a lot of their information.
The greater the number of active paths that lead to your web site, the
better it is. You want your site to pop up amongst the first couple of
pages in any search, not rated as site number 9,999,999 on page 999,999!
The number of links is one of several factors which affect your rating, so
always set up your automatic signature so each mail you send out into the
world includes an active link to your web site.
Sincerely
Janet Kaiser -- looking forward to seeing Jacqui's 200 photos of
Aberystwyth!
