firing down with wood

there is no `reason` that we used
wood in firing down to reduction.

it was just there. it was stacked
in small stick form next to the wood
kiln. it is so easy to throw in some
small pieces of wood when the kiln
gets to 1750F. no need to re/lite
burners, mess with that.

the kiln is all closed up/tight.
open one burner port/remove the
block and insert a few small sticks.

the atmosphere inside the kiln turns
very smokey and dense. the more sticks
you add, the denser it gets. after about
15 minutes of this, just walk away.
it clears and cools.

i have been doing this `wood thing`, for fifty
years. i know it works.
our kilns are outside...so, it is easy.
would not do this to an electric kiln in the basement.
`but, do i need to remind folks?`
VENT...and not just verbally on clayart.
