I must relate a story about what happened this weekend.

It was one of those Saturdays where it took me two hours to get out
of bed after waking up and another hour before I felt almost human.
The last thing I wanted to do was to work on pottery, but I put that
out of my mind, fired up my stereo, put on my favorite throwing
music, a compilation of Irish drinking songs and bagpipe music, and
started in.

I threw for about three hours. At this point I knew that If I got up
from my throwing chair that I would not touch clay again that day. I
looked in my water dish and there was about 1/2 inch left. The only
other water bucket was on the other side of my studio. I thought,
being lazy, that this would be a perfect time to try throwing dry.

I took a 3.5 lbs peice of clay and slowed my wheel to about 1/5
speed. I centered with my remaining water. Then I opened the clay
and drew up the sides in one stroke with no water!!! It just
happened! In one continuous arm movement I had opened a shallow bowl
with generous rounded rim to over 16" in diameter.

I have tried making shallow bowls this size before but the clay has
always warped and dropped, wilted and died before I could even grab
the propane torch to shore up the sides. This dry-thrown piece was
defying gravity!!! It was great!!!!!!

Just thought that I would share!!!
