granite glaze

I mixed up my first test of granite glaze. I used an old pickle jar, not
well washed, and it immediately deflocculated my granite jello. It
rejelled when I added the 50% by volume wood ash (from a friend's wood
stove). My guess is the ash, which is strongly basic, neutralized the acid
left in the pickle jar and it was the acidness that deflocculated the stuff.

The first strip, put through an electric kiln at cone 6, produced a
transparent greenish brown glaze that did some minor crawling. The test
strip was B-mix. Today another test strip goes thru a soda firing.
