Last week I tested the final hypothesis about why some grey stains turn pink
in certain glazes. As I reported last time, taking the magnesia out of the
glazes kept the grey stains grey. Several people had said that they were
turning pink because of a reaction of the cobalt in the stain with the
magnesia. So the last test of that hypothesis was to test a grey stain that
didn't have cobalt in the glazes containing magnesia. Sure enough, they
stayed grey. Mystery conclusively solved. Thanks again to all who replied.
